In an unprecedented sequence of events, Marvel is bringing back the legendary '90s duo for a brand-new series. For the uninitiated: Jay & Silent Bob come from the mind - and acting chops - of Kevin Smith and his lifelong friend Jason Mewes. Kevin Smith was one of the first people who made me realize comic books weren't as "nerdy" as the masses tried to make them seem. He created independent films that focused on the absurdities of real life, all wrapped in the vibe of the '90s alternative scene and packed with geek-laced banter that flew over most people's heads.
That independent movement eventually caught the attention of major studios, and before long Kevin's films - and his entire outlook - started bleeding into the mainstream. Kevin was one of the first people to truly kick the door open and show the world that comics weren't just for everybody… they were cool. His influence eventually led him into writing comics himself and even helping Hollywood plant the seeds for the superhero boom we live in today.
I've loved comics my whole life, and alongside helping the industry thrive, Kevin also helped me personally by giving me the confidence to share that love openly with the world. So yeah, this is an easy win to celebrate. Jay and Silent Bob are invading the 616.
And if you've been paying close attention, this dynamic duo has already been sneaking around in the background of your favorite Marvel comics. But now, after Doom decides he wants them dead, the entire Marvel Universe has to step up and protect them. Hulk won’t be the only Green in this special, and I doubt Johnny Storm will be the only character getting blazed.
