Toxic Avenger Comics #01
(W) Matt Bors (A/CA) Fred Harper
In the world of comics, July has always felt like the true start of the new year.
The biggest movies drop, publishers unleash their major summer events, and San Diego Comic-Con gathers nerds from every corner of the globe to celebrate our wonderfully weird genre.
But like SDCC itself, the world of creation can sometimes feel... a little too "suit & tie." Personally, I believe corporations do have a place in comics. Still, if we set aside the moral tug-of-war between consumerism and creativity, it’s fair to say that July’s festivities can make us a bit too obsessed with industry polish and box office numbers.
Thankfully, we’ve got a radioactive remedy.
A cult-classic corporate crusher.
A true hero of independent chaos: The Toxic Avenger.
Ahoy Comics has recently revived this ooze-soaked icon with gusto. Under the twisted genius of Matt Bors and Fred Harper, we’re getting a new spin on the mutated mayhem of Melvin Ferd. Just in time, too—there’s a new Toxic Avenger film dropping this summer. Toxie’s back, and he’s challenging the norms of our medium at every turn.
So this July, let’s shake off the weight of expectations. Float into the effortless joy of capes, conflict, crudeness, and camp.
Have a great July, nerds—
and don’t miss the new Toxic Avenger comic this month!
