Richie's Recommendation
Titan Comics
Loose End #01
(W) Dave Dwonch (A) Travis Hymel (CA) Andy Belanger
There is no question. I adore later 90's "Score" Films. These movies usually feature a down on his luck character, who's trying to hit it big or get their life together. When the moment finally comes it's usually paired with a nasty bit of bad luck and an impossible scenario. Some recommendations from me would be "Swingers" "Casino" and "Reservoir Dogs". This months comic book recommendation is very much in the vein of all these movies and much, much, more. Two Colorado Locals Dave Dwonch (Jenny Zero), and Travis Hymel (Trailer Park Boys) introduce us to the tragic life of Steven Hollis. Struggling screenwriter and overall "failure vibe", Steven seeks anything to steer his existence away from the abysmal. Lucky for him, He has friends in high places and opportunity finally comes knocking. Unlucky for him, that opportunity presents itself in a side quest that can't be refused. A simple assassination contract from the Mob!
Pushed extremely outside his comfort zone, by his friends and the universe, Steven will find himself making decisions no one should have to make. Every idea he has will be challenged and by end of the day he will have to see if he can still recognize the man reflected the mirror (maybe after clearing up all that powder.)
The twist and turns of this first issue will set the tone for the entire series. It will have you, like Steven, questioning the subjects of ethical obligation, friendship, and loyalty. Like it's 90's film inspirations, it will grip your imagination and hold you till the grand finale.
So jump in and find out how much of the party you can handle!
