In 1974, Gary earned his BFA in painting from East Texas State University and began working as a janitor and dot etcher in Dallas. In 1975, he joined a performance art group, APEWEEK with Jay Cotton and Ric Heitzman and had an APEWEEK art show at CAM in Houston. He moved to LA in 1976 during the LA punk rock explosion. He began drawing Jimbo for SLASH Magazine, then eventually for RAW magazine. He's done album covers for Frank Zappa and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Designed Pee Wee's Playhouse for CBS and won 3 Emmy awards for his work. Gary continues to show paintings at galleries and museums, notably: Gracie Mansion, Clementine, Sandra Gering, SHOFA, MOCA LA.
